A juicer with legs

by The Review CrewMay 30, 2010

When I first saw the Alessi Juicy Salif Citrus-Squeezer, I immediately thought of a spider. Its three long legs may support it nicely, but they also make it look as if it might be capable of putting itself away. Not surprisingly, the designer was actually thinking of a spider when he put it together. This juicer was designed by Philippe Starck and has even earned a place in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, making it just as much a conversation piece as a juicer.

The Alessi Juicy Salif Citrus-Squeezer is designed so that you can place a glass or a cup below the juicer and squeeze juice directly into it. It’s 11.5 inches tall and 5.5 inches in diameter, allowing it to sit over even tall glasses without a problem. While the design was initially critiqued as impractical, it has proven to be quite an effective juicer. The juicer is made from polished aluminum and can be can cleaned up by simply wiping it down. The Alessi Juicy Salif Citrus-Squeezer is priced at $96, which may be a little steep for a juicer but is actually less than reproductions of many of the works of art currently at the Museum of Modern Art.
