The Borderlands: Double Game Add-On Pack takes the two initial pieces of downloadable content for Borderlands and puts them on one physical disc. That means both Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot and The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned, but not the latest download the Secret Armory of General Knoxx. The price is exactly the same as if you bought each piece of individual content online, so this pack isn’t exactly a bargain, but it’s more of a way for gamers without internet connections (or the ability to buy content online) to enjoy more of what Borderlands has to offer.

IGN has previously reviewed both Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot and The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned in depth so there’s no need to repeat the text here. In short, The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned is an enjoyable expansion of the Borderlands world with new quests and a campy Halloween-themed cove to explore. Mad Moxxi is more of a failed experiment in repetitive arena combat with an unnecessarily high difficulty level and what seems like endless grinding through the same environments.

What you should know is that unlike the Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, you do need the original Borderlands disc to play this game pack. The disc acts as an installer that will put the DLC on your hard drive and then you play Borderlands as usual to access the new content.
The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned
While it’d be great to get some downloadable content that adds in character class skills, heaps of new items, bumps up the level cap, or builds in more interesting and complex quest and encounter mechanics, what’s presented here is a guaranteed good time.

Borderlands: Mad Moxxi
Unless you have a core group of three other friends and all of you have maxed out level 50 characters, I wouldn’t recommend Borderlands: Mad Moxxi’s Underdome Riot to you. It isn’t balanced properly and, since there are no normal XP awards or loot drops, you won’t find your character improving as you struggle through the endless waves.

Closing Comments
Borderlands is a great game, and if you’re like me, you want to play through every bit of available content. Unfortunately, only half of this add-on pack is as enjoyable as the original experience. What makes this disc even more difficult to recommend is that the third add-on for Borderlands, The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, is far and away the best piece of content and it isn’t included here.

2011 Toyota Avalon - Short Take Road Test

May 30, 2010 | Xbox 360 Games | No Comments

On the way to conquering the universe, Toyota put a pill right down Buick’s stack. The languid Avalon, essentially a punched-out Camry with Lexus trappings, may not fascinate the street pilots who devour this magazine, but about 40,000 people are expected to lay down their greenbacks for one this ...

Dial into this portable electric grill

May 30, 2010 | Xbox 360 Games | No Comments

There are two ways to go when grilling: go all out and work up a sweat over every little detail, or keep it simple and take the no fuss, no muss approach. Both are equally valid. It is easy to get carried away when it comes to the grill. From secret rubs and marinades to unique preparation methods, ...

NHL 2K11 Review

May 30, 2010 | Xbox 360 Games | No Comments

I give 2K Sports a lot of credit for sitting out this year on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 when it comes to hockey. They're stepping back to develop NHL 2K12 after getting their ass kicked by EA's series last season and are instead focusing their efforts on Wii, a system just waiting to have its techn...
