2011 Reviewboard Magazine Editor's Choice Award

The Sleepi Crib is a system designed by a Scandinavian company called Stokke.  The name Stokke is a plural form of the word stokkr which means “log”.    Clearly this has a pretty large influence on their designs since everything we have reviewed from Stokke is made out of wood.

The Stokke Sleepi Crib System is unique for several reasons, the largest of which is the ability for this terrific bed to transform from a small infant crib, to a good sized crib, to a largish toddler bed as your child grows.  Not only does this save you a ton of money and time (because you don’t have to run around hunting for the perfect crib, and the perfect toddler bed), it is an excellent way to go repurpose which is great for the environment.

What better way to show a child that looking after the environment is important then showing them from infancy on.  You can make a little event out of the process and have them there with you, showing them that with a few adjustments and add-ons they are doing their part to be green.   There is an optional conversion kit that needs to be purchased for this process to be possible.

All of the Stokke products we have reviewed to date are able to repurpose.  The whole idea is that they grow with your child.  This is obviously the way every company should design their products if they care about the earth.

The craftsmanship is top notch.  The materials are sturdy and look beautiful.  Every small detail relating to functionality has been addressed.  The thought put into everything including the packaging is clearly evident.

One of the really nice features of the crib system is it has wheels.  It’s narrow enough to go through doorways easily which means you can bring your baby with you around the house instead of using a baby monitor to listen to them.

The infant sized crib is designed very much like a nest, giving your baby a safe and secure feeling while he or she is resting.  As it transforms and grows with your baby it keeps an oval shape, thin enough to fit through doors as you need to move the crib from your bedroom to a separate nursery once you get out of the 2am feedings stage.

Stokke makes a number of really nice textile products to go with their system. The oval shape of the Stokke Sleepi system means that you will need to use custom fitted sheets (you could use regular sheets and tuck them underneath as well).  The Stokke selection of Duvets, pillows and the like are interesting.  Stokke says that they are designed with shapes and designs that stimulate your baby’s imagination, spark new thoughts, and entertain tiny mind.

Putting the Stokke Sleepi Crib System together was easy.  Anyone who is slightly good with their hands can put this together.  However,  if you purchase a Stokke Sleepi system from a local store (as opposed to say ordering it online) you may be able to negotiate assembly, or it might come assembled depending on the deal/store.  So you might be able to save a few bucks online, but the services offered by a local dealer might make the added expense worth your while.

All in all the Stokke Sleepi Crib System is an outstanding product, designed with care and ingenuity.  The other products offered by Stokke perfectly compliment the system perfectly. From a changing station that converts into a desk, to the Trip Trap High-Chair that converts into the toddler desk chair.  It is clear that Stokke has put an immense amount of thought into their offering.  The Stokke Sleepi Crib System (like the rest of their gear) gets a full 5 star ranking and we just awarded it along with the rest of the Stokee gear the 2011 Editor’s Choice Award.
