Razer Mamba Wireless Gaming Mouse Review

The Razer Mamba feels just right in your hand, like an extension of the natural curve when you rest your hand palm down on the table.  It’s there, but it isn’t foreign.   I’ve switched my mouse several times in the 20 years or so since I switched from a trackball.  That’s right… I used to rock the trackball, but back then it was cool to have a trackball and you know that’s all I really have to say about that 🙂

Writing a review on a mouse is kind of straight forward, there are several things that are important to me as a consumer, and other things that are important to me as a reviewer.

As a consumer things like cost, durability and functionality are KING to me.  I want as much of those things as I can get for the cheapest price and then I’ll start looking at things like looks/style/color/whatever.  Features aren’t nearly as important to me as those three things.  Functionality is not the same as feature-rific.  Functional simply means that damn thing works without much fuss and is going to stay that way.  I don’t want to waste two hours of my time fighting to get it installed and I don’t want to waste 2 hours of my time over the next year messing with settings either.

As a reviewer, cost is not as important.  Not because it isn’t a factor because it is…however, if a company sends you a product to review you aren’t paying for it so the idea of price is not on the surface of the evaluation any longer.  Price is more like a gold fish hiding in the sunken treasure laden boat on the bottom of the fish tank.  It is what it is.  If I go out and pay for something, especially if it’s a premium price the first thing in my head is
“I just spent alot more for this than I would really like to, so it better wipe my rear-end for me.”

That said I’m not going to talk much about the price of the Razer Mamba.  It’s a $129 mouse that you can get for about $95 shipped on eBay.

That said… and depending on how long it lasts… I’m going to lean toward “It’s worth it”.  And here is why:

1) It’s the best mouse I’ve ever used.  (That’s saying something… 20 years… reviewing for 13 years… get mice for free when I want them from just about any company… I’d pick this one over and over again.)
2) You don’t have to be a gamer to benefit from this mouse.  While it is a gaming mouse it is by far the best everyday mouse I’ve ever had.
3) It honestly brought my game up. I can pwn noobs faster and more efficiently then with my last mouse.  (Brand X!!!  No I’m not going there, but my last mouse was a popular gaming mouse brand).
4) I really like the fact that there is not a hundred buttons, there is a left, right, scroll/button, on the thumb side we have a forward/back set of buttons and up top by the tip of the thumb you have a sensitivity adjustment button set. The sensitivity buttons are invaluable and incredibly useful.  That’s it.
5) The grip is phenomenal and the material they made the Razer Mamba out of is really nice.

So the only thing left to really evaluate is durability.  If the mouse looks good and isn’t blinking “DANGER DANGER WILL ROBINSON” after six months of being beat on by me, then I’ll have to nominate it for an award and say it’s absolutely amazing and the best mouse on the planet.  Right now, after a few days I have to say it has AMAZING promise and could be the best mouse ever.

A Solid 4 out of 5 stars.  They can have the 5th star in 5 more months if the Razer Mamba mouse is durable and I am convinced it is going to last for a long time.  It does appear like it is incredibly durable and functional.
