Quite awhile ago we reviewed the 3D DepthQ projector and at the time of the review it was the best state of the art machine we had come across. Now the big boy of the 3D projector world seems to be the Mitsubishi HC-9000D 3D Projector.
So what makes the Mitsubishi HC-9000D Projector so special? Well for one thing it produces some AMAZINGLY CLEAR 3D Images thanks to some special reflective SXRD panels and an advanced frame sequencing method. Most 3D Projectors do 120 frames per second (60 for each eye). The Mitsubishi HC-9000D does 240 frames per second (120 for each eye) which results in a smoother 3D experience that feels natural to your eye and brain.
The 3D Glasses that go with the Mitsubishi HC-9000D projector are a special active-shutter setup that synchronizes everything to ensure that images for the left and right eyes are not mixed up. The result is a movie that looks so real you feel like you can reach out and touch it.
The Mitsubishi HC-9000D Projector is a quality build. It is sleek and beautiful and well crafted. The design accomodates several mounting options, and it makes for a great conversation piece. The Mitsubishi HC-9000D is also part of the new generation of Full HD 1080p projectors. Until now 3D projectors were 720p (including the DepthQ which scaled well to 1080p).
The performance we observed out of the Mitsubishi HC-9000D projector is superb. The issue here is going to be whether or not the Sony LCOS panels (the SXRD Panels we mentioned earlier) will lose contrast ratio, and color performance over time. There have been some fairly large concerns about Sony projectors because of this, in fact, Cine4home stopped selling Sony projectors because of the issue (according to a thread at AVSforums).
