The Jura Capresso ENA 9 One Touch Coffee Center is the most comprehensive and feature rich of the ENA line of Jura Capresso Coffee Centers.  Oddly, regardless of origin (Swiss made or Italian made) the folks across the pond still can not seem to give us a machine capable of making an American cup (large).  Sure you can stick a 3 – 5 inch cup under the spout, but that is like a shot to most Americans.  After all, Starbucks has a 20oz, and Dunkin Donuts has the X-Large (which is well over 20oz).  We are used to large cups of coffee, and it would be nice to see one of these companies have the respect for that tradition if they want us to drop a few grand on a machine (in this case about $1,500).

I’m not picking on Jura Capresso by themselves.  All of these automatic espresso machines are like that.  NONE of them will accomodate a large cup and the Jura Capresso does in fact make a machine that accomodates one of the largest.  What I am saying is it is inadequate for the average American and having the machine grind out a second cup so I can pour it into a larger mug gets on your nerves after awhile so you end up drinking less coffee.  The reason it is particularly annoying with Jura Capresso machines is that they make such GREAT coffee it calls to you… in a way I would imagine crack calls to drug addicts.  You will be sitting at your desk, swallow the four gulps of coffee that the machine is capable of spitting out and then after about… 2 minutes the jones will start… a small monkey will climb out of your cup and slowly make its way up your arm, to your shoulder.. and on to your back… where it will continue to grow and pound until you get up and make yourself another cup where the cycle will start all over… intermingling with the strong urge to go to the restroom.

My productivity at work would drop considerably, but the coffee compensates for the time grinding, brewing, and urinating and so I end up slightly more productive despite the multiple interruptions in work flow :)

The Jura Capresso ENA 9 is the slimmest One Touch automatic from Jura Capresso. It serves up a great latte macchiato and a cappuccino that is out of this world… with the touch of a single button.  There is another innovation with this new line; aroma boost.  Wow.  WOW.  Aroma boost is to Michael Jordan was to basketball.  It is an amazing button and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND its use.

Just like the rest of the Jura Capresso line of Coffee Machines you can hit the coffee button once or twice to get a single shot or a double shot of espresso in your cup.  In addition you can increase or decrease the amount of hot water that is added to your espresso (to make your coffee) by holding the button in for an extended duration, then hitting the button again to stop it where you want.  By doing that every subsequent cup will have the same amount of water added to it… effectively customizing it for the size mug you have in your kitchen.

Maintenance is a breeze, it tells you when to decalcify, and when to clean.  You follow the directions which involve dumping a cap of liquid in the water container, or putting a pill like cleaner in the pre-ground coffee chute. These cycles do take some time to complete but you will find your coffee tastes remarkably good after the cycle completes, which is well worth the time it takes.  (That and you don’t want to clog up the lines that deliver your wonderful coffee or have a dirty machine).

All in all I have to rate this machine a 7 out of 10.  It does more than the previous ENA 9 machines, and delivers a great cup of coffee.  Fairly regularly the spout will rinse and spill a little water over the edge of the machine (about an ounce).  The cause is a combination of the new rounded double spout with the stainless steel slotted drain cover.  The spout empties too quickly so the water gathers on the slot. The slots in the drain cover need to be vented differently to accommodate the spout flow.  If you set the machine on the slightest of incline the issue is much larger so make sure you put the machine on a flat surface that is level to the ground.

7 Out of 10, an excellent product, and excellent cup of coffee.  If you are looking for a great deal on the Jura Capresso ENA 9 Coffee Center you can get one over at 1stincoffee.com they have a great deal going where you get a free Jura Thermal Milk Container and Free ill Coffee with your purchase.
