NEW EDITION IQAir HealthPro Plus Air Purifier Quick Review

The New Edition IQAir HealthPro Plus Air Purifier is pretty impressive.  At face value it is a big fan with a pre-filter, a gas and odor filter, and a hyperHEPA filter in a box with some electronics.  This is why there are so many ‘wannabe’ versions of the HealthPro Plus.  Sure they are different sizes, and shapes, but they are all basically the same thing.  The problem with ‘wannabe’ solutions is they all take shortcuts.  These range from using inferior filters, to layering designs which can do things like inhibit the effectiveness of the air filters by positioning the air intake too close to the exhaust.  The exhaust ends up feeding the intake so the system would just loop re-filtering the air over and over again instead of distributing it through-out the room.  Someone could even say that these types of designs are done on purpose because bad testing (for instance lab testing done by say… Consumer Reports) could indicate that these types of air filtration devices kick out better quality air than they actually do.  After all putting a device in a small clear room (walls made of plastic or glass) with some smoke and timing how long it takes to be clear again isn’t much of a test. The New Edition IQAir HealthPro Plus Air Purifier has an excellent Swiss design that is about as close to perfect as you can get.  That is precisely the reason you see IQAir in Hospitals, Schools, and other large facilities.  Their technology is effective and these units bring that technology to your home.

One of the things a lot of people don’t know about their home is the air condition.  Air pollution in the home exists, and often is 10 – 20 times worse than outdoor air pollution.  It causes issues ranging from colds and flu to asthma and allergy triggering.  Mold is a very common thing in households everywhere on the planet and it is almost impossible to get rid of.  Everything you move from dishes to furniture cause the mold spores to stir up and multiply.  You need something that is IQAir effective to combat that by actively filtering the air in your home.  Something that isn’t going to clog up fast and become 50% as effective in as little as 3 months (like a number of the competitors).  Long term testing is a big deal with these types of units and we did our duty to you.  We’ve been testing the IQAir machines for 8 years.  We have the old IQAir HealthPro Plus from 8 years ago, without a filter change and guess what?  It’s operating at 94% efficiency which is a big deal considering it has been sitting in a home with pets and kids for 8 years.

We like to test things in a production environment.  In a real home, with real people, with real kids, and real people and pet dirt.  The way we look for effective results is by measuring the particles in the air before, during and after.  We use a laser particle scanner for this, because the dirt, dust and other junk in your air is usually invisible and smoke in a room just isn’t good enough.

So what did we find?  A few things actually.  First of all if you are going to keep the machine and not change the filters out there are a few things you need to do.  1) Understand it will not be 99% efficient, count on losing between 1 -2% the first 2 years and half a percent or so there after if you follow this basic cleaning procedure.  Take the prefilter out every 6 months and use either a can of air or an air compressor and blow it out.  This is where all the big stuff gets trapped.  Do it outside because you will get a lot of hair and dust everywhere.  Wear something like a dust mask and goggles to make sure you don’t inhale this stuff or get it in your eyes.   After that is all cleaned up simply stick it back in your IQAir machine and you are good to go for another 6 months.

We take particle scanner readings every year on the house.  We set the scanner to measure the smallest particle size and then take a read.  When we started a little over 8 years ago the read showed 1.5 MILLION particles per cubic foot.  After 24 hours with the IQAir HealthPro Plus Air Purifier set on HIGH (Level 6) it read 48,000.  That’s huge.  That number would eventually go to 15,000 and sit in that area.  Remember that’s with 5 kids and 2 dogs running in and out of the house!

This new IQAir HealthPro Plus is just as amazing. It is able to provide up to 25% more clean air than the original, the HyperHEPA filter now lasts up to 38% longer (which is huge considering it was amazing to begin with) and it’s much quieter. As in our meter said it was 30% quieter which puts it the category of #1 in that department world wide for high performance air purification devices.  The New Edition IQAir Health Pro Plus is being nominated for our Perfect 10 Award.  Only 1 other product since 1997 has ever received our Perfect 10 award.  Stay tuned we will be announcing the awards at the end of October so check back!  We will be publishing a comprehensive review detailing our actual testing out including sound decibel levels in a few days.  This is going to be amazing!  We will also be recommending one of their dealers based on their ability to get you a unit fast and support the product well.  So stay tuned.

For now you can chew on the Press Release from IQAir for any of the details we didn’t go over:

The world’s best air purifiers are now even better

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif., Sept. 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — IQAir (, the technology leader in high-performance air purification, today introduced its New Edition room air purifiers. This is IQAir’s most significant upgrade yet to its line of residential high-performance air purifiers. The New Edition offers three advancements:

  • Up to 25 percent more clean air,
  • Up to 38 percent longer filter life,
  • And 32% quieter – a new level of quietness never before achieved in high-performance home air purification.

IQAir achieved these advancements by focusing on the two most important components in any air purifier – the filters and the fan.
“The new fan is a first-of-a-kind,” says Frank Hammes, president of IQAir. “It is aerodynamically optimized to generate the highest possible airflow while minimizing sound. These improvements have increased our airflow while maintaining our superior Total System Efficiency. This gives allergy and asthma sufferers enhanced air quality they should immediately notice.”
“Allergy and asthma sufferers need the highest possible level of air purification,” says Hammes. “But the problem has always been to achieve this without sacrificing a quiet indoor environment. The New Edition systems reduce sound levels by 32 percent over our previous air cleaners and are now the quietest high-performance air purifiers in the world.”
Most consumer air cleaners are only designed to filter large dust particles – those 0.3 microns or larger. But 90 percent of all airborne particles are smaller than 0.3 microns. IQAir’s New Edition systems are the only residential air purifiers tested and certified to filter the smallest of ultrafine particles, down to 0.003 microns in size and with a guaranteed minimum efficiency of 99.5 percent.
Research has shown that ultrafine particles are the most dangerous air pollution particles of all. These smallest particles penetrate deeply into lung tissue and enter the bloodstream, increasing the production of atherosclerotic plaque by more than 50 percent. The result is an increase in heart attacks and strokes. Scientists have also found that even brief exposure to ultrafine pollution particles can result in allergic inflammation that causes asthma flare-ups. What’s more, studies have shown that exposure to ultrafine particles increases the risk of lung cancer and also damages DNA.
“These are the particles ordinary air purifiers are not designed to filter – although they are the most dangerous to our health,” says Hammes.
“At IQAir our filters are an endless obsession for us,” says Hammes. “The New Edition features the most sophisticated pleating pattern ever used in a residential air purifier filter.”
The filter and fan advancements have led to the remarkable combination of increased airflow, less noise and longer filter life. In fact, the New Edition’s filter life and particle retention are increased by 20 percent on the pre-filters and 38 percent on the HyperHEPA filters.
“At IQAir, we believe that for our customers to be satisfied – we must never be,” says Hammes. “To this end, we took what were already widely recognized as the world’s best air purifiers and made them even better. People who need the cleanest possible air will soon find the New Edition to be a vital part of their lives.”
IQAir has been able to make these improvements to New Edition air purifiers without increasing prices. The HealthPro Series and other IQAir residential air purifiers are available at Authorized IQAir Dealer retail stores, Authorized IQAir online retailers or at
