Ok – So Runner Runner was decent, I liked it and there is room in my life for movies like this. That said it was predictable, and while it was a topic that isn’t touched on (ever) (Internet Gambling) it was just meh. DiCaprio is a good actor, too bad he didn’t star in this. Justin Timberlake is a decent actor but he couldn’t carry this film as a leading man like DiCaprio would have. Justin is affable, he sells the nerdy math wiz thing well-ish but he unable to shed his ‘cool guy’ to really make me believe that he is a legit math nerd.
The plot had issues, but not a big deal. Like I said it was a decent movie, something I’d probably download and have on my movie drive for people to watch. Nothing I’d actually go to see if I were you and didn’t get free movie passes from the boss so I could write (what Justin Timberlake is probably calling a douche bag article).
To Justin Timberlake: Dude you are just too cool. If you want your acting to go to the next level you will need to figure out how to harness other “vibes” “aura’s” whatever you want to call it. When I look at you, regardless of the character you are playing, I see slick cool guy who gets the girl every time and has all the right moves. Is that a bad thing? Only if you are an actor. Stick to singing. I’m sure a lot of other movie roles will come your way because they want to insure financial success by bringing your massive singing following to the movies. Just know that you are surrounded by “Yes” people who are feeding you a bunch of crap about how great your acting skills are, and while they are decent, you will never be a Leonardo DiCaprio until you find away to embody your character, change your very soul, and reek the change.
To Leonardo DiCaprio: You are an amazing actor, don’t be afraid to produce and star in your own films. No one will think that is the only way you could get a part, they will think it is the next logical step for you. It’s like printing money.
Director Brad Furman: I knew this was your work when I saw the movie (I hadn’t read you were the director, I just knew). Is that a good thing? Lincoln Lawyer was better, you are a good director.
To Everyone Else: Take a pass at the movie theater, rent it at redbox, or download it from amazon when it comes out on Blu-ray. If you are going to hit the matinee it might be worth it, but go to the little movie spots that are super cheap like after it’s been out for awhile.
Here is the trailer for Runner Runner, like most movies in Hollywood all of the good scenes are actually in the movie trailer so there is little reason to actually go see it. Rent it.
