Casio Pro Trek Solar Watch

Casio ProTrek Solar WatchCasio is probably best known for their G-SHOCK line of watches.  The rugged durable watch has been a staple to guys who are rough on their gear for a long time.  So it is no surprise to see a higher end watch come out of the Casio camp that brings together the rugged watch style with a sporty look and an array of high tech features targeting the serious folks who either work or play in situations where they need to really rely on their gear to give them the information they need to make survival decisions.  Whether that is military, municipal, scientific, or outdoor enthusiast/extremist the Casio Pro Trek is really a watch that is hard to beat.

The first thing that stood out to me is the soft silicone band.  It is quite a large departure from the bands I’m used to seeing on say a G-SHOCK or other rugged watches.  This silicone band feels almost like skin gripping your wrist.  The comfort level is leagues better than the aforementioned bands.  My immediate concern was that the material would rip… or wasn’t as rugged.  So we ran some tests on it, and it is absolutely as rugged as its predecessors.  The Casio Pro Trek Solar Watch is a solar powered watch which is nice.  There are no batteries, which means you aren’t opening the watch to replace them, which means you aren’t creating seal issues that could make your watch susceptible to water damage.  It has a Multi-Band Atomic Timekeeping feature which automatically updates the time via radio wave.  The radio waves are sent out by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology), a government project that uses an Atomic clock to keep extremely accurate measurements of time.  The broadcast is available free, and there are many locations across the country that broadcast the radio waves.  These waves are received by Casio Pro Trek Solar Watch, if there is a difference between what it received and the time it is currently showing, the Casio Pro Trek Solar Watch will automatically correct itself.

The Casio Pro Trek Solar Watch also has things like a digital compass, barometer, altimeter, thermometer, etc.. etc.. it is like a Star Trek Tricorder on a wrist!
