The D-Link DCS-935L HD Wi-Fi Camera Review

D-Link has been making wifi routers, networking devices, and cameras for a long time. I’m old enough to remember when they started back in 1986 so I can tell you that they have always been a quality product. They weren’t on my radar until 92 or so, but I always had high regard for their product line after being exposed to it at work.  Then Cisco came a long and bought them.  That says everything as far as I’m concerned.  There isn’t much out there better than Cisco.  If they bought D-Link it wasn’t because they had a bad product line or crumby technology.  Cisco bought D-Link because they were doing things right and down the road… might have been able to compete with them. (They probably had some cool patents too!).

I like these little D-Link DCS series cameras. I’ve had a few now and they are pretty bullet proof.  You can drop them off the refrigerator (I’ve done it) and they don’t seem to be worse for wear.  You can leave them hanging for years and rely on them to be working just as well as they did the first day you hung them.  So when D-Link announced the DCS-935L HD Wi-Fi Camera I was quick to get one.

Setup was fairly standard.  What I like about D-Link is that they understand the concept “If something works don’t fix it”.  So the firmware updates, web interface, and even the new apps follow along in that same concept.  If you know how to work one D-Link DCS series camera you can work them all.  The only thing that has really changed is quality, a bigger lens and profile, and higher resolution. Within 10 minutes I had everything up and running without cracking the manual open.  I love that.

You can get the tech specifications here: http://us.dlink.com/products/home-solutions/hd-wi-fi-camera/

Some of the broad strokes on the feature set are:

  • Supports 11AC Wireless
  • 720p HD Video Quality
  • Night Vision
  • Sound & Motion Detection
  • Remote Viewing
  • Aperture is F2.4
  • Supports H.264
  • Does up to 1280×720 @ 30FPS

All in all I have to say the D-Link DCS-935L HD Wi-Fi Camera is a great find.  With the quality upgrades and ease of use it is easy to give it 4 out of 5 stars.
