The idea behind Plated.com is really neat. I love the idea that you can get fresh, responsible, sustainable food delivered to your door. I hate going to the grocery store. The way it works is you pick a meal plan you want, the number of meals you need for each dinner, pay and a few days later… your food shows up.
In the package you get a really nice printed color step-by-step (with loads of photos) how to meal guide, and fresh, pre-measured raw foods to use. This is a really great idea for couples or small families. I wouldn’t say it is a daily solution that gets rid of all that is grocery shopping. What I would say is it is an excellent way to replace a night out a couple of times a night. It is an excellent thing to do with your significant other, or your little family together as an activity. It is an excellent solution for a single guy trying to impress a girl with a home cooked meal.
Unfortunately that is where all the greatness ends. We ordered 2 meals (2 portions each meal). When the box arrived we had the first meal card and the ingredients. The 2nd meal we ordered was no where in sight. What was there was what looked like part of a completely different order. This made us wonder if this was even the right package, or if we got someone’s return.
When we emailed them to inform them what happened we were told they were sorry, and they would make it up to us. Well it’s been about a year and we haven’t heard from them at all. Where I’m from that is not a good way to run a business. Furthermore, they knew we were writing about it so you would think they would be on their A game. It didn’t happen.
I can’t tell you how disappointed we were. The first meal (the one that actually came intact and was what we ordered) was a lot of fun putting together. It was delicious and I’ve made that recipe several times since. The service has a lot of promise, but I honestly am not impressed with their execution or follow through (lack thereof).
I give Plated.com a 2 out of 5 star ranking.
