A Petco store in Johnson City New York allowed many of their animals to die because they didn’t want to give them away to people willing to take them while preparing for a major flood.  Despite warnings all over the news Petco claims it had no reason to believe the store would be impacted, even though the river is only a short distance away.  Residents in the area offered to take the pets, but Petco refused, one resident claiming that they overheard the manager saying they can’t give the pets away as they won’t be covered in an insurance claim if they do.

This type of behavior from a large corporation is absolutely unacceptable if it is true.   Petco is denying any wrong doing, and deleting coments from their facebook from people who where there and offered to take the pets.

WBNG Action news reported on this locally: http://www.wbng.com/news/local/Saturday–Petco-129586498.html and this redit post from a consumer that was there onsite is also available here: http://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/kbfwd/so_im_in_an_area_that_flooded_the_local_petco/

I won’t be shopping at Petco anymore.  How about you?
